The Institute for Women's Health

These tools help us confirm a viable pregnancy, detect abnormalities and conditions, and evaluate the wellbeing of the fetus. Several different types of ultrasounds are used throughout the duration of your pregnancy. An ultrasound is a diagnostic tool utilized in imaging the pregnant uterus and fetus. A sonogram uses ultrasound technology, which is why you may sometimes hear the words “ultrasound” and “sonogram” used interchangeably. Ultrasounds allow us to confirm viable pregnancy, detect abnormalities, and evaluate the wellbeing of the fetus, uterus, and placenta.

There are several ultrasounds performed through out the duration of each pregnancy. There is preparation for each ultrasound. The first trimester requires an empty bladder, while the second and third trimesters require a full bladder.

We also offer keepsake elective 3D/4D ultrasounds, which must be scheduled between 26 and 30 weeks gestation. Our 3D ultrasound in San Antonio allow you to see your baby in more detail than ever before. We also offer a keepsake bear with your baby’s heartbeat recorded.

Our ultrasounds in San Antonio can be used as a diagnostic tool used in evaluating non-pregnant patients as well. We use this tool to evaluate for abnormalities of the uterus and ovaries.

Institue for Women’s Health OB/GYN offers sonograms at our locations. Schedule your appointment today.
